Every vehicle on the road has inner components that create a lot of heat. To mitigate this, oil and fluid are used to absorb and disperse radiant heat, which in turn keeps the operating temperature of each component at an adequate level. Call Blackwater Diesel today to get your oil and fluids changed. Let Blackwater Diesel create a maintenance schedule per your vehicle’s recommendations for your fleet.

Coolant Changes

Diesel engines use dedicated coolant to absorb and disperse radiant heat. Although this coolant is durable, it needs to be swapped out once every 30 to 60 thousand miles as it will eventually break down and clog critical cooling infrastructure. Although your transmission doesn’t have a dedicated coolant, it does use its own lubricant to absorb and dissipate radiant heat. This fluid also needs to be changed on a regular basis, with most manufacturers recommending a service interval of 30 to 60 thousand miles.

Lubrication Changes

Your diesel engine, transmission, transfer case, and differentials need to be lubricated at all times. Although these lubricants have a significant lifespan, they need to be changed on a regular basis to ensure your moving parts are properly lubricated. When lubricants break down, they become less effective at eradicating friction and absorbing radiant heat. With that in mind, the following service intervals must be followed if your truck is to remain at peak functionality: diesel engine oil changes once every 20 thousand miles, transmission fluid changes every 30 to 60 thousand miles, transfer case fluid changes once every 30 to 60 thousand miles, and differential fluid changes once every 30 to 60 thousand miles.

Steering Fluid

In trucks that use fluid to operate their steering systems, we highly recommend changing that fluid once every 30 to 60 thousand miles. Old steering fluid may overheat and impact your truck’s handling and maneuverability. Common symptoms that indicate an issue with your steering fluid include boiling steering fluid, black steering fluid, and screeching sounds when steering.
